The brand Vimor has been around for half a century, dedicating time and research to reviving old designs from heritage textiles. These exclusive fabrics are all handwoven by master weavers. Vimor’s Foundation helps young women earn their own livelihoods by training them in embroidery to create things of beauty. Chimy Nanjappa, founder of Vimor, first got her start selling sarees at the World’s Fair in New York and Montreal throughout the 1960s. Vimor, meaning pure, officially started in 1974 when Nanjappa and her 16 year old daughter began selling old temple sarees as a means of livelihood following the death of their husband and father. The business took off when the traditional temple sarees became less easily available, prompting the pair to recreate their own.
